Liberty has moved up from No. 25 to No. 22 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll this week. The Flames have also entered the Coaches Top 25 poll for the first time this season at No. 22.
The Flames picked up a win over UMass, 49-25, on Saturday to improve to 11-0 to begin the Jamey Chadwell era.
Liberty will conclude the regular season on Saturday at UTEP. The Flames have opened as a 18-point favorite against the Miners. The Conference USA matchup is scheduled for Saturday at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas at 3:30 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Saturday’s game will mark the 12th consecutive game where the Flames have been listed as a favorite to open the 2023 season under first year head coach Jamey Chadwell.
Liberty received 229 points in the AP Top 25 poll this week and are ranked No. 22 after two weeks at No. 25. In the Coaches’ poll, the Flames received 158 votes and are ranked No. 22, up from 79 votes and an effective ranking of No. 27 last week.
The Flames are one of six remaining unbeaten teams in the country. Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida State, and Washington are all undefeated and ranked No. 1 through No. 5.
Liberty spent two weeks ranked in the Top 25 poll last season, rising as high as No. 19. The Flames first entered the FBS Top 25 poll during the 2020 season and climbed to as high as No. 17 at the end of the season following the team’s 10-1 record. The Flames have now been ranked in three of the past four seasons.
