2022 recruit linebacker, Gene Townsel, put Liberty in his top three schools. According to 247Sports, Townsel is unrated, but has multiple offers including one from a power five conference member, Maryland.

Townsel’s high school track record is impressive, as he has been on varsity since freshman year at, Life Christian Academy, in Colonial Heights, Virginia. He is a speedy linebacker/safety that has power as a tackler. Townsel may be considered a little undersized for the linebacking position, but his talent is clear.
