Liberty men’s basketball team has released its 2023-24 non-conference schedule. The Flames will open the season on Nov. 6 at Liberty Arena. The schedule features games against Charlotte, Furman, FAU, Charleston, Grand Canyon, and Alabama.
The Flames will open the season at home against non-Division I member Mid-Atlantic Christian. Liberty will then compete in the “He Gets Us” 2023 Hall of Fame Series in Charlotte at the Spectrum Center on Nov. 10. The Flames will meet the Charlotte 49ers as part of a triple-header in the one-day event.
On Nov. 16, the Flames will play Furman to open the 2023 Myrtle Beach Invitational. The eight team tournament will be held Nov. 16, 17, and 19 at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. All games will be televised across the ESPN platforms. The Chanticleers, as the tournament host, will also compete in the event. The rest of the field includes the College of Charleston, Saint Louis, Vermont, Wichita State, and Wyoming.
Liberty will then return home for a single game against Maryland Eastern-Shore on Nov. 25 before heading to South Florida. Liberty will play FAU, a team that is expected to be ranked in the preseason top 10 after their run to the 2023 Final Four. The game is scheduled for Nov. 30 and then the Flames will play Charleston on Dec. 1.
A four-game home stand begins on Dec. 5 against Mississippi Valley State, followed by Grand Canyon on Dec. 9, Tennessee State on Dec. 13, and St. Andrews on Dec. 16.
Liberty will play Alabama on Dec. 30 in Birmingham, Alabama in the 2023 CM Newton Classic. This will be the second consecutive season the Flames have faced Alabama on the hardwood as Liberty fell to Alabama, 95-59, on Nov. 11. The Crimson Tide would go on to a 31-6 overall record, an SEC Championship and Sweet 16 appearance before falling to San Diego State.
The non-conference schedule concludes on New Year’s Day at Liberty Arena against Boyce before the Flames open Conference USA play in early January.
