Liberty softball extended their win streak to 14 and have opened ASUN play with a 12-0 mark, their best start in ASUN play in school history. The Lady Flames would see their win streak come to an end on Tuesday night against No. 3 Virginia Tech.

FRIDAY GAME 1: LIBERTY 8, KENNESAW STATE 4

KSU struck first with a single run in the first inning, but Liberty quickly answered with three in the first and two in the second to take a 5-1 lead. The Owls sliced the deficit to two at 5-3 and again at 6-4 before the Flames added two in the sixth to put the game out of reach. Caroline Hudson was 3 for 4 in the game with a triple, two home runs, five RBI, and three runs scored.

FRIDAY GAME 2: LIBERTY 3, KENNESAW STATE 2

Liberty scored single runs in both the second and third innings to give the Lady Flames the early lead. Emily Kirby had a no-hitter going through four innings before surrendering a hit in the fifth. Liberty added an insurance run in the sixth. Kirby faced the minimum through 6.2 innings before KSU added a two-out double in the seventh. The Owls then hit a two-run home run in the seventh before Kirby was able to get out of the inning and secure the win.

SATURDAY: LIBERTY 6, KENNESAW STATE 1

Liberty extended its winning streak to 14 games, wrapping up its fourth ASUN series sweep to begin the season with the win on Sunday. The Lady Flames built a 4-0 lead through four innings and had allowed just one hit to that point. KSU would record four straight hits to start the fifth as McKenzie Wagoner entered the game with the bases loaded and nobody out. She would strike out the next two batters before getting out of the jam with a groundout. The Lady Flames added two runs in the sixth and that was more than enough insurance.

TUESDAY: NO. 3 VIRGINIA TECH 8, LIBERTY 1

Liberty was held to just three hits on the evening against as the Virginia Tech pitchers kept the Lady Flames in check throughout the evening. The Hokies held a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning before Liberty got on the scoreboard. Virginia Tech would limit the damage to just one run before scoring a run of their own in the 6th and four in the 7th.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: CAROLINE HUDSON

Hudson filled up the stat sheet in Friday’s game one win over Kennesaw State. The Liberty catcher was 3 for 4 in the game with a triple, two home runs, five RBI, and three runs scored. She hit safely in all three games against the Owls, before being held hitless on Tuesday against Virginia Tech.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: EMILY KIRBY

Kirby was stellar in her win over Kennesaw State. Pitching the complete game, she allowed four hits and two runs while striking out 11 and not allowing a walk. She got the start on Tuesday night against Virginia Tech, allowing three runs and six hits in five innings while striking out five and surrendering three walks.

This week Liberty heads to Fort Myers, Florida to take on FGCU for a three-game series. The Lady Flames take on the Eagles in a double-header on Friday beginning at 5 pm and the series finale is scheduled for Saturday at noon.
