The Liberty football team took part in its 8th of 15 spring practices on Wednesday morning as the Flames look to build off the program’s 2020 season, the most successful year in school history.
While spring practice has been closed to the media and general public, Liberty will allow 1,000 fans to watch the team go through workouts on Saturday, March 27 as part of the team’s Red, White, and Blue Preview. Due to current stadium capacity limits set by the Governor of Virginia and his office, the seating capacity will be limited to just the 1,000 fans.
The event is only open to current Flames Club members and current Liberty football season ticket holders. Those unable to attend on March 27 as part of the 1,000 in attendance will be able to enjoy the day’s activities virtually. Alan York and Paul Rutigliano will broadcast live from Williams Stadium beginning at 10 am. Gates at Williams Stadium will open at 9:30 am and the even twill begin around 10 am.
The Flames return 10 of 11 starters on both sides of the football and 87.1% of the team’s offensive production from a 2020 team that set a number of firsts. Liberty concluded the campaign ranked No. 17 in the country, the highest ranking for the program at the FBS level. Liberty’s 8-0 start to the season was the best start in school history and included the program’s first ever wins over ACC opponents, beating Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
Liberty finished the season with a 10-1 record, tying the program’s mark for wins in a season with the 2008 season that finished 10-2. The Flames won the Cure Bowl for a second straight season by defeating former Big South rival Coastal Carolina on Dec. 26, 2020.
