Liberty is scheduled to open the 2025 season at home against FCS member Maine, according to a copy of the contract obtained by ASOR.
The Flames and Black Bears are scheduled to meet on August 30, 2025 at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. Liberty will pay Maine a $400,000 guarantee for the game.
With this update, Liberty is currently scheduled to play Maine, James Madison in Lynchburg on September 20, and at Old Dominion on September 27 in 2025 in addition to the 8 game Conference USA schedule. Liberty’s fourth and final non-conference game for the 2025 season is still yet to be announced at this time.
Maine finished the 2023 season with a 2-9 mark and 1-7 record in CAA play under second year head coach Jordan Stevens.
This will be the third ever meeting between the Flames and Black Bears. Liberty defeated Maine, 59-44, in the previous meeting on October 19, 2019. That game featured the new FBS member Liberty Flames under first year head coach Hugh Freeze at Williams Stadium. Prior to that meeting, Maine and Liberty met in 1992, a 42-20 Maine win in the first meeting between the two programs.
