Under third year head coach Hugh Freeze and with star quarterback Malik Willis returning, Liberty football has released its August Training Camp schedule, set to begin Friday, August 6. Select portions of practice will be open to the media while Coach Freeze, other coaches, and players will be available for video interviews frequently throughout camp.

Beginning Friday, Liberty will practice five consecutive days before taking the first day off on Wednesday, August 11. The team will return to practice on Thursday, August 12 with a Fan Appreciation Day scheduled for Saturday, August 14 from 11:00 am through 1:00 pm. Scrimmages are also currently scheduled on August 21 and August 28. The Flames are scheduled to have 16 practices this month before preparation turns to game week planning for the season opener.

The Flames are coming off a program best season where Liberty finished with a 10-1 record in the shortened 2020 season, ending the year with a dramatic bowl victory over Coastal Carolina. Liberty also had a pair of wins over ACC foes in Syracuse and in-state opponent Virginia Tech. The two wins made Liberty the first non-Power 5 team to post a pair of wins over ACC schools in the same season since Houston in 2015. Liberty finished the 2020 campaign ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press poll and No. 18 in the Amway Coaches Poll, the highest ever ranking for the Flames as an FBS program.

Liberty is scheduled to begin the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Flames have won 11 straight games inside the friendly confines of Williams Stadium on the Mountain.
