Saturday will mark the Flames’ annual Military Appreciation Day at Williams Stadium. On the 75th anniversary of D-Day, Liberty will recognize the “Bedford Boys” with special helmets.

The “Bedford Boys” were men from Company A, 1st Battalion 116th Infantry 29th Division. They took part in the invasion of the Normandy Coast, during Operation Overlord, commonly called D-Day (June 6, 1944) during World War II. There were 34 men from Bedford County with Co. A participating in the invasion, sixteen of which were killed, and three others were considered missing and later declared dead during the first day of the invasion. Two more died during the rest of the Normandy campaign.
