Liberty announced on Friday it will host Syracuse on August 31, 2019 to open the season. It will be the first ever meeting between the programs. The game is part of 3-game series with Liberty also making the trip to Syracuse and the Carrier Dome on September 19, 2020 and September 25, 2021.
Athletic Director Ian McCaw has stated on multiple occasions over the past month that he intends for Liberty to have at least one prominent home opponent each season. Old Dominion fits that label for the 2018 season, and Syracuse would certainly fall into that category for 2019.
This is the 3rd scheduled ACC opponent to visit Williams Stadium over the next decade as it was announced at Commencement that Wake Forest will visit the Bill in 2025 and Virginia will do the same in 2027. This announcement comes less than 2 weeks after Liberty, with the help of President Donald Trump, announced the complete 2018 schedule and several future games through 2027.
With the announcement of this game, we now know 10 games for Liberty’s 2019 schedule. The Flames will host Syracuse, Buffalo, New Mexico, New Mexico State, and FCS member Southern Illinois, and will travel to New Mexico State, Rutgers, BYU, UMass, and Virginia. McCaw recently stated the 2019 schedule should be completed by mid-summer, if not sooner.
