Liberty was originally scheduled to take on Bowling Green on Oct. 3, 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench as those plans. That game has now been rescheduled for Sept. 23, 2028, according to Bowling Green’s official site. This will be the second game of the scheduled home and home as the Flames are scheduled to host Bowling Green on Sept. 2, 2023.
The Falcons compete in the MAC where they finished 0-5 in the shortened 2020 season where MAC opponents played a condensed, conference-only season. Liberty and Bowling Green have only played once before, on Sept. 13, 2003 when the Flames were defeated 62-3.
The 2028 scheduled game becomes the 5th game scheduled that season for the Independent Flames. Liberty is also scheduled to play at Virginia Tech on Sept. 2 that season, as well as host North Carolina (9/16), Coastal Carolina (10/14), and New Mexico State (11/25).
Liberty’s game against Bowling Green was one of four canceled from the 2020 slate, though the Flames and UMass Minutemen were able to get back on the schedule for Black Friday just ahead of Thanksgiving. The Flames also had games against North Carolina A&T on Sept. 12 and at UConn on Oct. 31 scraped from the 2020 slate.
