With the announcements over the past week of Liberty’s games in 2025 against ETSU and 2026 against James Madison, the Flames now have their FCS opponent officially scheduled through the 2026 season.
When Liberty moved to the FBS as an Independent beginning with the 2018 season, the Flames scheduled two FCS opponents in 2018, 2019, and 2020. From 2021-2026, Liberty is scheduled to play just one FCS opponent.
FBS teams are able to count one win over an FCS opponent each season towards bowl eligibility. Here’s a look at Liberty’s scheduled games against FCS opponents:
2018 – Idaho State, Norfolk State
2019 – Hampton, Maine
2020 – North Carolina A&T, Western Carolina
2021 – Campbell
2022 – Gardner-Webb
2023 – ETSU
2024 – Campbell
2025 – ETSU
2026 – James Madison
