Since Liberty announced its move to the FBS, beginning the transition in 2018, the Flames have been putting together schedules with games announced all the way into 2031.

As an Independent, many have wondered what these schedules would look like for a brand new FBS member, but the Flames have been able to put together very respectable schedules.

Here’s a look at games and series Liberty has scheduled/played against Power Five opponents:

Please note: this list does not include Liberty’s games against P5 opponents when the Flames were members of the FCS.

The most frequent matchups against P5 opponents are Virginia and Virginia Tech, which makes perfect sense as the two in-state programs are each less than two hours from Lynchburg. The Flames have 6 games scheduled against both the Cavaliers and the Hokies, with 4 on the road and 2 at home – basically two sets of 2-for-1 three game series.

Liberty has also agreed to 2-for-1 series with ACC opponents Duke, North Carolina, Syracuse, and Wake Forest.

The second most common P5 conference the Flames have games scheduled against is the SEC, with 4 individual road games having been scheduled.

The only other conference Liberty is scheduled to play or has played is the Big Ten, where the Flames faced Rutgers this past season.

Liberty has yet to schedule any games against the Big 12 or the PAC 12; however, the Flames did play Baylor in 2017, Liberty’s final season as an FCS member.

Are there any teams and/or conferences you think Liberty should focus on playing in the future?
