Lindy’s, a preseason sports magazine publisher and online destination featuring sports news, scores, columns, opinions, and expert analysis for college football, has hit local newsstands with in-depth features on all 130 FBS programs.
Liberty was picked 93rd out of 130 teams under second-year head coach Hugh Freeze and the 3rd best Independent team behind Notre Dame (10) and BYU (63).
“Liberty will go to warp speed on offense with Willis running and passing behind a solid offensive line,” the magazine wrote in its preview of Liberty. “LU has a lot of talented receivers, and Mack is primed for a big year at running back to keep the show going. The defense has a mix of experience and young talent. The schedule, including the opener at Virginia Tech, and later trips to Syracuse and NC State, is daunting, but Freeze’s Flames will be a tough out.”
The magazine highlights players to watch – QB Malik Willis, RB Joshua Mack, WR CJ Yarbrough, LT Tristan Schultz, DE TreShaun Clark, DE Austin Lewis, LB Tyren Dupree, S Javon Scruggs, and CB Jimmy Faulks while calling JUCO transfer WR Javian Lofton the team’s top newcomer.
“He was Liberty’s most coveted player on the Flames’ recruiting board,” the magazine writes of Lofton. “The versatile Lofton had 37 receptions for 834 yards and 9 touchdowns last year at Chaffey Community College in California. He can play out wide or in the slot.”
Liberty is scheduled to report for regular team activities beginning on July 13th, followed by an enhanced training schedule that begins July 24 and a normal, four-week preseason camp starting Aug. 7. A large percentage of players who are back on campus now are going through voluntary workouts.
