The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will attempt to snap their three-game losing streak as they travel to Liberty Mountain to showdown against the Liberty Flames this Saturday.

The Flames and Bulldogs will face off at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, VA on Nov. 4th at 6PM. The game will be broadcast on CBSSN and LFSN Radio (The Journey 88.3 FM). This Saturday will be the Flames’ first Saturday game since September.

Louisiana Tech is 2-3 in Conference USA and 3-6 overall this season. Last week, the Bulldogs lost 27-24 at home against New Mexico State. In five out of the Bulldogs’ eight games this season, the winner has only won by one score.

The Flames and Bulldogs’ programs have never played before. Since the creation of the AP poll, the Flames have been ranked for ten total weeks while the Bulldogs have been featured for six weeks.

The Bulldogs finished last season with a 3-9 record. Since joining Conference USA in 2013, the Bulldogs have won the Conference USA West division twice and tied for first once. The Bulldogs are 70-65 since the 2013 season.

Head coach Sonny Cumbie is in his second season with Louisiana Tech. Cumbie has spent much of his football career in Texas, where he played football in high school and walked on at Texas Tech. After a few years spent bouncing between NFL practice squads and arena football rosters, Cumbie returned to Texas Tech to start a career in coaching.

Before he began head coaching, Cumbie specialized in coaching offensive positions for both Texas Tech and TCU from 2009 to 2021. Cumbie is 6-15 with the Bulldogs and 4-9 in Conference USA.

Louisiana Tech has two quarterbacks who have recorded over 1,000 pass yards each this season. Former Boise State quarterback Hank Bachmeier was the team’s starter at the beginning of the season, missed a few games due to injury, but has returned recently. While Bachmeier was out, Jack Turner took most of the team’s offensive snaps.

Louisiana Tech has averaged 242.6 passing yards and 140.2 rush yards per game this season. The Bulldogs’ defense has also forced seven turnovers this season, contrasting the Flames’ nineteen defensive takeaways.

Between quarterbacks Turner and Bachmeier, the Bulldogs have been sacked 21 times this season. Bachmeier alone has been sacked 17 times and rushed 39 times for -7 yards total this season.

WR #6 – Smoke Harris has hauled in 62 receptions this season for 637 yards and 3 touchdowns. Harris is ranked 23rd overall in receiving yards for all FBS players this season.

DB #1 – Willie Roberts DB has recorded 33 tackles, 24 solo tackles, 10 pass defenses, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble already this season. In his collegiate career, Roberts has forced 13 turnovers alone.
