Liberty quarterback may find himself in discussion for the Heisman Trophy as the calendar nears November. The quarterback for the 6-0 Flames officially launched his campaign on Saturday in Liberty’s 56-35 win over Southern Miss.
In the win, Willis completed 24 of his 31 passing attempts for 345 yards and 6 touchdowns, setting career marks for passing yards and touchdowns. His 6 touchdowns tied a Liberty school record for most passing touchdowns in a single game which was set by Phil Basso in 1984. Willis wasn’t done there either, as ye also led the team with 97 rushing yards and another touchdown on 12 rushing attempts.
Willis entered this weekend’s action leading all quarterbacks nationally with 398 rushing yards. He’s now up to 485 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns while completing 88 of 131 passes for 1,122 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
If he keeps putting numbers up like that and the Flames keep winning, Willis could be in serious consideration for college football’s ultimate individual award.
People want to put BYU’s QB in the Heisman mix. If he’s there then Liberty QB Malik Willis needs to be in the mix.
Seven more TDs today
