The Liberty Flames men’s basketball team will embark on an early August foreign tour to Costa Rica as part of the team’s preparation for the 2016-17 season, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. The trip will run from August 8-13.
The NCAA allows teams to take a foreign trip once every four years. Liberty’s most-recent international summer trip was to Belgium and France in 2011. Division I teams are also permitted 10 full summer practices in preparation for a foreign trip.
The team’s newcomers will also participate in the foreign tour. The Flames welcome eight new members of the team including Xzavier Barmore (G, 6-1, 165, Fr., Seneca, S.C.), Myo Baxter-Bell (F, 6-5, 255, R-Fr., Dayton, Ohio), Ray Chen (G, 6-1, 185, Sr., Miaoli, Taiwan), Zach Farquhar (G, 5-9, 160, R-So., Cincinnati, Ohio), Brock Gardner (F, 6-7, 210, Fr., Chandler, Arizona), Scottie James (F, 6-7, 226, So., Tarpon Springs, Florida), Jorge Pacheco-Ortiz (G, 6-1, 170, Fr., Ponce, Puerto Rico), and Josiah Talbert (F, 6-9, 210, Fr., Olathe, Kansas).
