As we continue to countdown to kickoff at Virginia Tech on September 3rd, i decided to rank the Most Important Flames. Admittedly, I got this idea from Virginia Tech beat-writer Andy Bitter who’s doing the same thing for the Hokies. This is a list of the players whose success is most crucial for Liberty doing well this season. It’s not a list of the best or most talented Flames, but most important. Keep that in mind as we go through this countdown.
Farrow burst onto the scene last year as a redshirt freshman. The 6’2” receiver ranked third on the team in 2015 with 32 receptions for 448 yards. The LCA product also had the game winning touchdown catch against Coastal Carolina last season. Not a shabby way to start his career.
Farrow has the ability to be Liberty’s best wide receiver in program history. As quarterback Josh Woodrum said last November, “I think he’s going to be pretty good for us. He’s so, so, so talented. He’s going to chase (Darrin Peterson’s) records, that’s for sure.” Darrin Peterson, who owns the Flames’ career receiving marks for yards, receptions, and touchdowns, had just 4 catches for 60 yards and 1 touchdown as a freshman.
With Darrin Peterson gone, how will B.J. transition to being Liberty’s top target and near the top of the opposing team defense’s scouting chart? Sure, Liberty has a talented receiving corps outside of Farrow, including Dante Shells and Zac Parker, but Farrow provides the most potential as a go to receiver. Stephon Masha will need someone he can rely on to convert crucial 3rd downs to keep the offense on the field. Farrow needs to develop into that guy.
