As we continue to countdown to kickoff at Virginia Tech on September 3rd, i decided to rank the Most Important Flames. Admittedly, I got this idea from Virginia Tech beat-writer Andy Bitter who’s doing the same thing for the Hokies. This is a list of the players whose success is most crucial for Liberty doing well this season. It’s not a list of the best or most talented Flames, but most important. Keep that in mind as we go through this countdown.
Peters broke onto the scene as a true freshman last season, playing in all 11 games and recording 17 tackles. He showed his play-making ability as he added a sack and returned an interception for a touchdown, both against #8 Charleston Southern. Gill says he feels good about Peters as a starter at one corner, and the team voted him as a captain for the 2016 season. It’s not often that a sophomore, much less, a true sophomore, is voted on as a team captain.
There’s not much proven depth behind Jeremy, Tyrin Holloway, and Chris Turner, and with the loss of Wesley Scott to injury, the young Peters will be counted on to lead the corners. Peters could also be called on to help in the return game as he was in 2015.
