As we continue to countdown to kickoff at Virginia Tech on September 3rd, i decided to rank the Most Important Flames. Admittedly, I got this idea from Virginia Tech beat-writer Andy Bitter who’s doing the same thing for the Hokies. This is a list of the players whose success is most crucial for Liberty doing well this season. It’s not a list of the best or most talented Flames, but most important. Keep that in mind as we go through this countdown.
JaRon Greene is the most experienced of all the Flames’ returning defensive lineman and one of the most experienced members of the entire defense. He has played in 36 games during his Liberty career including 25 starts. He’s coming off a career year in 2015 when he posted a career-high 36 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.
When he’s at his best, Greene is a game changer and demands a double team freeing his teammates to wreak havoc on opposing team’s backfields. With Liberty’s career sack leader and 2015 Big South Defensive Player of the Year Chima Uzowihe no longer causing chaos on the front line, Greene will be counted on the anchor of the defensive line allowing ball hawks like Erwin Dessources and Juwan Wells to make plays.
