The bracket for the 2023 Myrtle Beach Invitational has been announced and Liberty will open up against Furman on Nov. 16.
The eight team tournament will be held Nov. 16, 17, and 19 at the HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. All games will be televised across the ESPN platforms. The Chanticleers, as the tournament host, will also compete in the event. The rest of the field includes the College of Charleston, Saint Louis, Vermont, Wichita State, and Wyoming.
Three of the field’s teams advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, as Charleston, Furman, and Vermont all won their conference tournament in 2023 while Liberty also reached the NIT.
Both Charleston and Furman lost to Final Four participant San Diego State in the opening rounds of the NCAA’s South Regional in Orlando. Before meeting the Aztecs, Furman upset fourth-seeded Virginia in the first round. Furman finished the year with a 28-8 overall record. The Paladins have topped the 20-win mark in six of the last seven seasons.
After playing the Paladins, the Flames will either play Wichita State or Coastal Carolina.
Wichita State has appeared in eight of the last 11 NCAA Tournaments is guided by first-year head coach Paul Mills, who took Oral Roberts to the Sweet 16 in 2021.
Coastal Carolina will be making its second appearance in the Myrtle Beach Invitational. Coach Cliff Ellis enters the 2023-24 season as the 14th winningest college coach all-time with 828 victories in 45 seasons.
