Big South basketball notes
Basketball season officially tipped off this week, and the Flames are 1-1 following their home win over Randolph and road loss to William & Mary. True freshman Ryan Kemrite does plan to redshirt this season which makes sense with the Flames being so experienced and deep.
Preseason conference favorite Charleston Southern started their season in impressive fashion scoring 130 points in their opener, and then going on the road to defeat Delaware who will contend for the CAA championship. The Bucs did lose Wednesday night at home against UNC-Wilmington in overtime.
Under first year head coach Jayson Gee, the Longwood Lancers were able to pick up their first ever win over a BCS conference opponent when they beat TCU 82-79 earlier this week.
Games to watch this week include Marshall Henderson and Ole Miss paying a visit to Coastal Carolina and High Point travelling to 3-1 Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. The Big South North Division preseason favorite Panthers also face the Tribe of William & Mary in Williamsburg on Wednesday.
Women’s hoops start 0-2, host UVA
The Lady Flames also got their season underway as they have faced Charlotte and JMU so far. Liberty dropped both games, but get back in action on Tuesday as Virginia pays a visit to the Vines Center at 7pm.
