Marshall struggling
Last season’s Big South Tournament MVP Davon Marshall is really struggling. In his last 3 games he has scored just 9 points total while shooting 3/25 from the field and 2/12 from 3-point range. His 2 made 3-pointers both came against NAIA Southeastern. Against his last 2 Division I opponents, Marshall is 1/19 from the field, 0/9 from 3 with just 2 points scored. He was benched early in the 2nd half of the Furman game and played just 21 minutes, the 2nd lowest minute total of his Liberty career. It was only the 2nd game of his career he has been held scoreless with the other one coming against Southern Virginia on December 4, 2012 when he attempted just 2 field goals in 23 minutes, but tallied 8 assists. The Flames will need him to pick it up if they hope to compete for a conference championship.
Last season Marshall averaged 13.6 points per game while shooting 44.5% from the field and 43.1% from 3.
Burrus & Smith banged up
Both Antwan Burrus and Drew Smith were banged up in the New Year’s Day game against Delaware. Burrus left early in the 2nd half with a back injury and did not return. Smith was injured later in the game with an injury to his forehead but was able to return.
Lady Flames 3-1 in conference
The women’s team beat Campbell 75-52 on December 28th before losing on the road to High Point 75-70. The Lady Flames rebounded with a win on the road against Charleston Southern Thursday night. Katelyn Adams, Catherine Kearney, and Ashley Rininger all recorded double-doubles in the victory over the Buccaneers. Liberty is now 3-1 in conference play on the season. They face Coastal Carolina on Saturday at 2pm in Myrtle Beach.
