Losing streak
After Tuesday night’s loss to Gardner-Webb, the Flames have now lost 5 consecutive Big South games in the same season for the first time since the 2005-2006 season. During the losing streak of the 2006 season, Liberty lost 7 consecutive conference games beginning on January 7th and ending on February 2nd with a win over VMI in the Vines Center. Dale Layer & company will seek to replicate that feat Saturday night.

Women’s hoops update
The Lady Flames defeated Charleston Southern before falling to Presbyterian in their two games this week. With the split, Carey Green’s squad moves to 10-5 in conference play as they continue to chase Winthrop who is 12-3 in the Big South. Katelyn Adams had 10 points and 15 rebounds in the 66-45 win over Charleston Southern.

It’s baseball season!
Your defending Big South Champion and regional runner-up Liberty Flames baseball team gets started this weekend. Hopefully you caught our baseball season preview this week. Be on the lookout for continual updates throughout the baseball season by clicking on the Baseball tab at the top of the site. Liberty opens play Jacksonville, Florida as part of the North Florida Tournament. The Flames face North Florida, South Florida, and Richmond. Missouri was originally scheduled to be part of the tournament, but they have been unable to make it to Jacksonville due to the wintry weather which has affected much of the Southeast.

Well, kind of. The Flames started their 7 on 7 workouts earlier this week. Spring ball is right around the corner.


Walt prepares for NFL Draft
Cornerback Walt Aikens continues to prepare for the NFL Draft. One mock draft has him going in the 4th round to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 2014 NFL Draft begins Thursday, May 8th as Aikens looks to be the first Flame drafted since Rashad Jennings was selected in the 7th round in 2009 by the Jaguars.

Dot Richardson makes coaching debut
FlamesNation was amped up for the start of the 2014 softball season behind first-year head coach Dot Richardson. The Olympic gold medalist and her team started the season 0-5 with games against Western Kentucky, Georgetown, Ole Miss, and Florida Gulf Coastal. The Flames hope to get on the winning track this weekend for games in Wilmington, North Carolina against Norfolk State, UMBC, and UNC-Wilmington.
