Basketball transfers
As you have likely seen on the site earlier this week, Sommy Ogukwe and Chad Donley will be transferring from Liberty. Both would have been seniors for the 2014-15 season. Neither were expected to contribute much next season. With their departures, the Flames now have 3 open scholarships for next year’s squad. The Spring signing period opens April 16 and runs through May 21. We’ll be sure to keep you updated throughout this time.
Stavian Allen’s dunk
Speaking of the recruiting class, signee Stavian Allen competed in the 2014 North Carolina Triad All Star Game and dunk contest. Check out this dunk of Allen’s in the dunk contest:

Buzz Williams to Va Tech
If you’ve been following the basketball coaching carousel, you’ve heard Marquette’s head coach has been named head coach at Virginia Tech. So, why do we care? Well, Dale Layer and Williams have a long coaching history together. So, there’s been some grumbling of Layer possibly heading west to join Williams on staff at VT, much like Ritchie McKay did just 5 years earlier. Unless there are some major changes, don’t expect that to happen.
Welcome @TeamCoachBuzz to the Commonwealth of Virginia! Great friend, coach, father, husband! @hokiesports will never be the same!

Former Liberty coaches in the Big Dance
Could we have a matchup of former Liberty head coaches in the national championship game? Well, if both Virginia and Michigan make it to the national championship game, we will. Former Liberty head coaches Ritchie McKay and Jeff Meyer are the top assistants on the Virginia and Michigan coaching staffs, respectively. The Washington Post had an article on McKay earlier this week that even briefly mentioned his time at Liberty.
FlameFans thread of the week
This week’s thread of the week on FlameFans is NU football players can unionize where the potentially historic ruling that Northwestern’s football players can unionize is being discussed. How will this impact collegiate athletics as we know it? How will this impact Liberty? Title IX?
