Baseball continues to rise in RPI
Coming off their weekend shutout sweep of Presbyterian, the Flames split a pair of games against ACC opponents. Liberty improved their record to 22-8 overall and 8-1 in conference play with a 3 game weekend series with VMI on the docket. The Keydets are 6-3 in conference play. The Flames RPI rose from 37 to 24 on the week.
Spring game 4/12
Spring practice has ramped up with the Spring game coming up on April 12th at 2pm. Hopefully you been keeping up with our weekly spring practice updates.
James Johnson transfer
Information was released earlier this week that former UVA and current San Diego State forward James Johnson was intending to transfer. One article mentioned he had plans to visit Liberty. The Flames were in the mix for Johnson out of high school when he ended up signing with Virginia, and again when Johnson transferred from UVA before he ended up at San Diego State. The 6’9″, 235 pound Johnson averaged 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per game. If he ends up at Liberty, he will likely contend for the starting position in the post.
Falwell’s plane trips
Jerry Falwell Jr’s plane has been making the rounds lately, going to Sun Belt destinations such as Troy, Statesboro (Georgia Southern), Jonesboro (Arkansas State), and Monroe (UL-Monroe) in recent days. Hopefully these trips will turn into a Sun Belt invite for Liberty next month.
Speaking of realignment, the Hustle Belt (which is a SB Nation blog covering the MAC) had a piece this week on possible MAC realignment options. When discussing Liberty, it’s stated “a source close to the Flames’ athletic director tells me the deal is pretty much done between the two parties, meaning Liberty could be off the market very soon.” Interesting…

FlameFans thread of the week
This week we return to the NCAA Realignment Megathread. While it was full of some great insider info, the comedy this week was brilliant. Check it out starting on page 150.
Very interesting detective work on Chancellor Falwell’s flight itineraries. Part Encyclopedia Brown, part Jack Baur’s 24. Could you get Chloe to pull the video from the security and traffic cameras to see who he was talking with?
