Basketball roster changes
Well, there’s 4 fewer members of the basketball roster this week than there were a week ago. Joe Retic, David Andoh, Jordan Dembley, and Peter Moller will not be returning. According to a source, Retic, Andoh, and Dembley’s scholarships were not renewed for the 2015-16 season by the new coaching staff. As we’ve mentioned for some time, it is unlikely the two European prospects, Robin Jorch and Jakub Karwowski, will end up at Liberty next season. A source tells us it is a 95% chance they are not on the team in 2015-16. If neither are on the team, Liberty is down to 11 scholarship players, and we are still waiting on Tomasz Gielo’s decision.
Baseball update
After a week off, the Flames got back on the diamond on Wednesday as they played host to Richmond. Liberty picked up the win, 3-2, thanks to a solid 7 innings from Matt Pennington. The always big series with Coastal Carolina is this weekend. The two rivals meet for a 3-game series beginning Friday night at 6pm.

Hagen, Davis, Scott get NFL opportunity
Jacob Hagen, Dominique Davis, and Kenny Scott will each get an opportunity to make their dreams come true in the NFL. Hagen (Rams) and Davis (Steelers) signed as undrafted free agents while Scott got an invite to the Indianapolis Colts’ rookie mini-camp.
Dailey watches Wilson
Liberty quarterback coach Joe Dailey made the trek to the 757 to watch rising senior quarterback prospect Jacob Wilson on Wednesday. The Flames have still yet to offer Wilson, who had over 20 Division I schools watch him throw Wednesday. He is a 2-star rated prospect with several Division I scholarship offers. Liberty has offered 5 other QBs in the Class of 2016, 2 of whom have committed elsewhere. The Flames are expected to sign 2 quarterbacks in this class.
Eric Grabowski commits to LU
Coach Toman picked up a commitment from Eric Grabowski. Grabowski currently plays for Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania. Through 42 games this season, he is batting .448 with 31 extra base hits and has a slugging percentage of .813. Grabowski also has a 3.55 ERA in 33 innings pitched. He is expected to play 2nd base and pitch for the Flames. Grabowski was considering several other schools including Stony Brook, USC-Upstate, Campbell, and Longwood.
Other sports
- The softball team is currently competing in the Big South Tournament. The Lady Flames are the #4 seed and lost their opening game to #5 seed Charleston Southern. Liberty faces Gardner-Webb Friday morning at 9am.
- The women’s lacrosse team advanced to the championship game of the Big South tournament this past Sunday where the #2 seed Lady Flames fell to top seed Winthrop, 13-8. Liberty finishes the season 9-11 overall and 5-2 in conference play, a big improvement from last year’s 2-16 overall and 1-6 conference mark.
FlameFans thread of the week
Plenty of discussion this week as we try to determine the makeup of the Flames’ basketball roster for 2015-16 in this week’s FlameFans thread of the week, Roster for 2015-16.
Besides the 2 QBs we offered who have committed elsewhere, Cody Saunders and Micah Wilson, another, Anthony Brown, has shortened his list and we are no longer on it. If we are planning on signing 2 we need to have more than 2 active offers at this point in the process.
