Recruiting, Recruiting, Recruiting
What a busy recruiting week for the Flames. It was definitely the most action in the almost 3 year history of Flames Nation. Coach Gill reeled in commitments from offensive linemen Daniel Zapata and Aidan Burroughs, quarterback Stephen Calvert, and kicker Alex Probert. Hopefully you read our recruiting update from Tuesday which chronicled all of these updates.
LU offering $6,000 via FCOA?
After committing, Probert had an interview with Scout where he discussed his commitment. One of the things he mentioned for committing to LU despite being so far away from his Minnesota home is that Liberty is offering the Full Cost of Attendance. Probert states, “I just decided because Liberty offers the full cost of attendance of $6,000 a year,…” We’ve wondered exactly how much the Flames were offering under FCOA, and this is the first time we’ve heard anything close to an official number. If this $6,000 figure is accurate, it means Liberty is offering just as much, if not more, than most schools in the country. Most estimates have schools offering from $3-5,000 per year.
Media Day
Big South Football Media Day is Wednesday, and the Flames will be represented by quarterback Josh Woodrum and defensive end Chima Uzowihe. Where will Liberty be picked to finish in the preseason poll? How many Flames will be selected to the preseason All-Big South team? Be sure to check back on Wednesday as we provide full coverage of the day’s events which will be held at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta this year.
Coastal to the Sun Belt?
So, Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson and Coastal Carolina Athletic Director Matt Hogue are now both on record stating the Sun Belt has reached out to Coastal regarding their potential interest in possible future membership in the league. Benson’s full quote: “I think Eastern Kentucky has been public in declaring their interest in moving up to FBS. I think that Coastal Carolina has not made that public statement. So has Eastern Kentucky contacted the Sun Belt? Yes. Have we had conversation with Coastal Carolina and others? Yes. That’s about all I can say.” So, what you’re saying, Mr. Benson, is the Sun Belt would be open to anyone but Liberty? Ok, got it.

Flames to play in Challenge in Music City
First year head coach Ritchie McKay will lead the Flames in the 2015 Challenge in Music City. The event, played at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, will also feature Appalachian State, Central Michigan, Mercer, Sam Houston State, and Tulane.
Seth Curry signs with Kings
Former Flame (for only 1 year) Seth Curry signed a 2 year deal reportedly worth $2 million with the Sacramento Kings. Curry was the leading scorer of the Las Vegas Summer League after averaging 24.3 points per game on 45.9% shooting with the New Orleans Pelicans’ summer league team. Curry excelled in the D-League last season, finishing as the 3rd leading scorer and was named to the All D-League First Team.
FlameFans thread of the week
One of the great things of FlameFans is being able to hear from friends and family members of the student-athletes. Recent football commit Aidan Burroughs’ dad stopped by to discuss his son’s commitment in this week’s thread of the week, 2016 Verbal Commit: OL Aidan Burroughs.
