Liberty picked 2nd in Big South poll
As expected, the Flames were picked to finish 2nd in the Big South this season at Thursday’s Big South Media Day festivities. Coastal Carolina was the near unanimous pick to repeat as conference champions as they received all but 4 first-place votes. Those 4 other first-place votes all went to Liberty.
Liberty placed 7 on the Preseason All-Big South Team – WR Darrin Peterson, OL Jonathan Burgess, OL Greg Ray, OL Mitch Hanson, DL Chima Uzowihe, LB Nick Sigmon, and DB Jacob Hagen. Coastal Carolina was the only team with more selections as the Chanticleers had 9.
P&P Sports Network’s Preseason Power Poll
The Palmetto & Pine Sports Network released their Preseason Football Power Poll this week. It’s a ranking of the 17 football playing members of the Atlantic Sun, Big South, and Southern Conferences. Liberty checks in at #4 just behind Coastal Carolina, Furman and Chattanooga. Charleston Southern was ranked #7, Gardner-Webb #10, Monmouth #11, and Presbyterian #13.
Dembley commits
Coach Layer and company wasted no time in finding a replacement for Braxton Bonds. The Flames snagged a commitment from Jordan Dembley, a 6’1″ point guard from Minneapolis. Dembley had offers from several programs including Hampton, Buffalo, New Mexico State, and San Francisco.
