Wake Forest OL transfer
Coach Gill announced a transfer from offensive lineman Will Smith late last week. Smith comes to Liberty from Wake Forest where he spent the past 3 seasons including a redshirt year in 2012. He will have two years of eligibility remaining and is able to compete immediately. Smith saw playing time in 12 games and started 4 at left tackle. He will immediately boost the Flames’ depth on the line.
Lang’s position previews
If you haven’t been reading Chris Lang of the News & Advance’s position previews, you should. So far, he’s previewed the QB’s, RB’s, WR’s, and offensive line.
STATS releases top 25
The final preseason top 25 was released by STATS this week. They had Liberty ranked #15. The Flames have been ranked anywhere from 12-15 in all preseason polls this year. Coastal Carolina was ranked #5 by STATS with Charleston Southern in the “others receiving votes” category.
Kevin Fogg with a preseason INT
Former Flame Kevin Fogg caught a deflected pass for an interception in the preseason Hall of Fame game for the Steelers against the Vikings last Sunday night. Fogg is fighting for a roster spot in Pittsburgh. Here’s the video of his INT:
Coastal to Sun Belt heats up
The rumors surrounding Coastal Carolina heading to the Sun Belt have definitely heated up this week after Sun Belt officials took a visit to Conway. The conference has also visited Eastern Kentucky and New Mexico State as it continues to search for a 12th football member. Following the Sun Belt’s visit, Coastal president David DeCenzo says the school will accept an offer from the Sun Belt if one comes in. No surprise, but it’s the first time they’ve publicly stating such.
WBB schedule released
Carey Green and the Lady Flames released the 2015-16 basketball schedule which includes home contests against NC State and Seton Hall. Liberty will also face Ohio State, Duke, and California.
Plans Revealed for New Indoor Track Facility
Plans have been revealed for a new indoor track & field facility for the University’s accomplished program. The 130,000 square foot facility will feature a hydraulically banked 200-meter track oval. It will be located below the LU monogram off Candlers Mountain Road. Work is scheduled to begin this fall and is expected to open in the Fall of 2016.
