Clifton Richardson almost transferred to Richmond
Danny Rocco spoke in his press conference on Wednesday about how close Clifton Richardson was to transferring to Richmond, but that Rocco thought it was best he go somewhere he knew he could “get his transfer credits in.” John O’Connor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch wrote a full article on it earlier this week, which you can read here. Here is Rocco’s full press conference:
“It’s not about the coaches, it’s about our players.”
My favorite quote from Turner Gill this week was “It’s not about the coaches, it’s about our players.” He said this in response to a question about the unique matchup with Danny Rocco. One thing I have learned this week, regardless of the outcome Saturday, I’m glad Turner Gill is Liberty’s head football coach right now.
Injury notes
Coach Turner Gill gave the following injury notes for Saturday’s game with Richmond:
- Aldreakis Allen – doubtful
- Francis Bah – probable
- Dylan Bowman – questionable
Ben Edwards update
The Richmond wide receiver was injured in the NC State game and missed the Gardner-Webb game with a concussion and a head laceration which required stitches. Expect Edwards to play against Liberty as Rocco says “he’s looking a lot better.” Edwards was first team all-CAA a season ago and led the CAA with 80 receptions for 852 yards.
Sagarin Ratings
Here are the Big South football teams’ current Sagarin Ratings:
#152 Coastal Carolina
#158 Liberty
#196 Gardner-Webb
#206 Charleston Southern
#225 Presbyterian
#238 VMI
Coastal jumps ahead of Liberty following their win over Eastern Kentucky.
State of Virginia football budgets
John O’Connor of the Richmond Times-Dispatch had an informative post earlier this week where he broke down Virginia’s FCS programs’ budgets with Liberty far and away the largest.

It’s well past time for the Flames to begin to see a return on that investment.

Hopefully you heard the news from us earlier this week regarding the San Antonio native A.C. Reid committing to Liberty. The 6’6″ wing adds to the ever growing 4 person class of 2014. He also has offers from Hampton, Sam Houston State, The Citadel, and Texas State.
How about giving some insight and providing coverage on the 1-10 Ladies Volleyball team which is losing match after match without even winning a set? What is the nature of Caroline Douglas’ injury? When is her expected return? How is Shane Pinder keeping the team motivated? What have been the bright spots amidst all the losses?
I, for one, would appreciate such information.
Any idea what the football budgets are for the schools of the Sun Belt conference?
