Coach Turner Gill, quarterback Stephon Masha, and linebacker Dexter Robbins’ time on the Big South Media Day stage is complete, and here are some of their newsiest quotes from the stage:
The new offense will be uptempo.
When asked about the offense with a new quarterback and offensive coordinator this year, Gill said, “We may be more uptempo” and “we are going to run as many plays as we can.” He also joked that fans shouldn’t take long getting popcorn because they could miss several plays. Gill also emphasized his confidence in Masha’s ability at quarterback, “I feel very confident in his ability. He has shown that he has improved in every facet.”
The defense is the fastest it’s been under Gill.
Gill said “at every position we have people that can run” and this defense will be the fastest it’s ever been in his 5 seasons as head coach.
Last season has “put a chip on our shoulder.”
When asked how the team feels following last season’s disappointment, Stephon Masha said, “It was motivating. It put a chip on our shoulder.” Masha also mentioned the team went into last year a little “big-headed” following the team’s successful season in 2014. Coach Gill said, “It just gave us more urgency and being more detailed with everything we do.”
Enter Sandman is Dexter Robbins’ favorite song to come out to.
Dexter Robbins was asked if the team would be prepared to play in front of 70,000 jumping and screaming fans at Virginia Tech. He responded, “Enter Sandman is my favorite song to come out to.”
