The Old Dominion Monarchs will attempt to add a blemish to the Liberty Flames’ undefeated season this Saturday.
The Flames and Monarchs will face off in Williams Stadium in Lynchburg, VA on Nov. 11th at 1 PM. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and LFSN Radio (The Journey 88.3 FM).
Last Saturday, Williams Stadium hosted its sixth-largest crowd at Williams Stadium when 21,647 fans watched the Flames beat Louisiana Tech. This weekend will be College for a Weekend at Liberty, promising another formidable crowd on Liberty Mountain.
Old Dominion is 3-3 in the Sun Belt and 4-5 overall this season. Last week, the Monarchs lost a close 28-24 game against Coastal Carolina. The week before that, the Monarchs lost another close game at JMU.
The Flames and Monarchs’ programs have played four times before. Liberty has won the last three contests, with their largest margin of victory coming in 2018 when the Flames won 52-10.
The Monarchs finished last season with a 3-9 record. Since leaving Conference USA in 2022, the Monarchs have gone 7-14 overall. Since their inaugural FBS season in 2014, the Monarchs have only made it to two bowl games, though they have had three six-win seasons.
Head coach Ricky Rahne came to Old Dominion in 2020 after six seasons with Penn State and is 13-21 as a head coach. Rahne began his coaching career in 2004 at Holy Cross. Much of Rahne’s coaching career has been spent coaching offensive positions.
As a tight end coach for Penn State during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, Rahne mentored Mackey Award finalist Mike Gesicki. Rahne coached Gesicki as he broke Penn State records for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns by a tight end.
Old Dominion has averaged 203.1 passing yards and 160.2 rush yards per game this season. The Bulldogs’ defense has also forced twelve turnovers this season and has a turnover ratio of -3.
Between quarterbacks Grant Wilson and Jack Shields, the Monarchs have been sacked 47 times for 270 yards lost. Old Dominion has been the most sacked team in college football this season, averaging more than five sacks a game. The two quarterbacks have also thrown a combined eight interceptions this season.

QB #13 – Grant Wilson is a Junior from Arlington, VA. Wilson has thrown 188 times for 1,475 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions this season.
WR #5 – Isiah Paige has hauled 30 receptions this season for 291 yards and 1 touchdown. Paige is the #1 targeted wide receiver for Old Dominion.
LB #42 – Jason Henderson has recorded 139 tackles, 41 solo tackles, and 4 sacks this season.
