The Flames season came to a close this month with an 11th place finish at the Arkansas hosted regional of the NCAA tournament. The Flames won three events this year along with claiming the individual portion of the Big South Tournament. Things look very positive for the Flames 2013-2014 season, with  Max McKay being the only major contributor graduating.

Softball
The Lady Flames have continuously been plagued by losing close games throughout the season, and the Big South Tournament was no different. Coastal and Campbell both beat the Flames by one run to end the season. Katie Zavodny was named first team All-Conference and All-Region after her fantastic season. Sammi Shivock was also named to the All-Region team. The promising third baseman, Kassidy McCoy received Big South Freshman team honors, and Megan Robinson was named to the All-Academic team, due to her spectacular defense. This team will have high expectations going into next year as there were no seniors on the roster, but will lose Jill Stephens. The Lady Flames will also miss Paul Wetmore as he is ending his 20 year term as head coach.

Track and Field
The Flames had a solid showing at the IC4A/ECAC Regional Track Championships, the men placing 5th and the women 9th, having numerous winners at the event. Three Flames have qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships. They are Ryan Smith in the shot put, Mychelle Cumings in the discus, and Isaac Wendland in the 1,500 meter. All three of these athletes have had magnificent seasons. The NCAA Championships begin June 5.
Other athletes have also received honors for their work this season. Jennifer Klugh was named Academic All-District III and is a highly regarded athlete at Liberty while Chris Johnson and Jenn Nicholson picked up Big South Men and Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors on May 8.
