Liberty drops their first game at the HTC Center losing to Coastal 66-64. Here’s Overtime…
- The Flames had a chance to pull off a signature road win, but came up just short. Antwan Burrus’ 3-pointer from just beyond the top of the arc hit the backboard before falling off. Burrus, in a similar play to the 3-point buzzer beater he hit 2 years ago at Charleston Southern, got a decent look at the rim. His shot hit the backboard and the rim before bouncing off.
- With the loss, the Flames fall to 4-1 all-time in the HTC Center. If you remember, Liberty won 4 straight on Coastal’s home floor a year ago to capture the 2013 Big South Tournament Championship.
- Burrus had his best game since suffering a back injury just prior to conference play. The senior forward finished with 15 points and 4 rebounds.
- John Caleb Sanders only attempted 5 shots, and finished with 8 points, 7 assists, and 3 turnovers.
- Tomasz Gielo struggled with ball control, finishing with 5 turnovers.
- For the 2nd consecutive road game, Liberty is unable to close out an opponent. The Flames led by 5 with 3:30 to play, but the Chanticleers finished the game on an 11-4 run to win the game.
- Liberty had 2 turnovers on consecutive possessions in the final 2 minutes, allowing Coastal to regain the lead.
- In the final 3 1/2 minutes, CCU was 4-of-5 from the field including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. Meanwhile, the Flames were 2-of-5 from the field with 2 turnovers during the same period of time.
