Flames lose their 5th consecutive game, falling to Gardner-Webb 68-52.
- The 5 consecutive Big South Conference losses are the most consecutive conference losses in the same season for Liberty since January 2006.
- The 1st half was just atrocious for the Flames offensively. Liberty shot 7-of-26 (27%) from the field, 0-of-4 from 3, 0 assists, and 12 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
- It didn’t get much better in the 2nd half as Liberty finished 38% from the field, 3-of-11 from 3, just 5 assists, and 18 turnovers.
- Antwan Burrus struggled, going 2-of-12 from the field with 3 turnovers. He finished with just 4 points and 0 defensive rebounds. Burrus did have 3 offensive boards.
- Trying to get a spark from the bench, Layer played seldom-used reserves Wes Alcegaire and Chad Donley for a stretch in the 2nd half. They played a combined 7 minutes, and Donley knocked down 2 free throws.
- The Flames matched their season low for points in a game. Liberty also scored 52 in their loss to Missouri State earlier in the year.
- Entering the game, Liberty had dropped to last in the Big South in scoring offense in Big South only games. The Flames were averaging just 68.4 points per game in their 1st 10 Big South games. A number that will drop.
- On the bright side, Drew Smith attempted the first 3-pointer of his career and made it. Smith finished with 10 points and 4 boards.
- I got a text during the game stating “worst (Liberty) has looked since Hankinson era.” Ouch.
