Since Scott Jackson was hired as Liberty’s new head baseball coach in July 2016, he has implemented the philosophy of not publicly releasing his signing classes. Unlike football and men’s basketball, there’s not a lot of readily available information available for high school prospects. It has taken some time, but we have been able to piece together several names that help make up the 2018 Liberty baseball recruiting class.
Joe Adametz
Adametz is a 6’5″, 175 pound LHP from Governor Mifflin High School in Mohnton, Pennsylvania. He signed with the Flames, and at one point during his senior season had a 4-1 record with a 0.56 ERA, 42 strikeouts, and 6 walks in 25 innings. During his junior season, he was 3-3 with a 4.16 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 32 innings as he helped his school to the District 3 Class 6A final and the PIAA Tournament. He also received interest from Pittsburgh and Elon.
Drew Baughman
Baughman is a 6’3″, 215 pound first baseman from Cumberland Valley High School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The right hander has also played third base and catcher in high school. Perfect Game has him ranked as the 2nd best first baseman in the state of Pennsylvania with interest from NC State, Penn State, Kentucky, and Virginia. As a senior, Baughman batted .446 with 1 homerun and 17 RBIs with a .983 fielding percentage.
Gray Betts
Betts is a 5’10”, 175 pound catcher from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. According to Perfect Game, he is the top ranked catcher in the state of North Carolina. As a senior, Betts batted .467 with 4 homeruns and 25 RBIs.
Troy Britts
Britts is a 6’0″, 160 pound RHP from St. John’s Country Day School in Orange Park, Florida.
David Erickson
Erickson is a 6’0″, 190 pound RHP from Cape Henlopen High School in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He’s ranked as the top RHP in Delaware by Perfect Game. He struck out 9 batters in the state championship game to help Cape Henlopen win its first ever state baseball championship in June.
Cole Garrett
Garrett is a 6’0″, 175 pound RHP from Kennesaw Mountain High Shcool in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Jaylen Guy
Guy is a 6’0″, 175 pound shortstop from Southeast Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. He’s ranked as the 2nd best shortstop in the state of North Carolina, according to Perfect Game.
Buck Leinen
Leinen is a 6’4″, 190 pound LHP from Concordia High School in Omaha, Nebraska.
Mason Meyer
Meyer is a 6’1″, 200 pound LHP from Newnan, Georgia. He attended Central Alabama Community College this past year where he was 5-1 with a 2.74 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 75.2 innings. Meyer attended East Coweta High School.
