This week’s ASOR basketball player of the week honor goes to Darius McGhee.

The Flames opened conference play at rival Lipscomb this past weekend and split the two games. In both matchups, McGhee proved why he was a preseason 1st team all-ASUN selection and is a serious contender for ASUN Player of The Year. McGhee led Liberty in scoring for both games, with 16 in the first game and 20 in the second. He also led the Flames in minutes for both matchups (35 and 34), totaling 69 minutes played. McGhee also continues to be a consistent rebounder for Liberty, as the guard secured a total of 9 boards in the two games.

The junior consistently ignites the Flames offense each game. McGhee leads the Flames in scoring on the year with 15 points per game and is shooting 45.8% from the field. Besides being the shortest player on Liberty’s roster, McGhee trails only Blake Preston in rebounds per game with an average of 4.1.

As McGhee continues to make his case for ASUN Player of The Year, his production will be crucial if the Flames want to win the ASUN for a third consecutive year. Liberty’s games scheduled against FGCU this weekend were canceled due to COVID-19 with the Eagles, but the Flames have since been scheduled to host Kennesaw State this coming weekend.
