This week’s ASOR basketball Player of the Week goes to Chris Parker.
The Henderson State transfer has been a huge addition this season for the Flames, and that was evident in the games this week. In both games against South Carolina State and Carver College, Parker scored a combined 17 points along with 9 assists and 2 rebounds. On Wednesday night against Carver College, the starters did not get many minutes, but Parker made his impact known as he recorded statistics in the points, rebounds, steals, and assists columns. Against South Carolina State, Parker was a force, as he was involved in 34 out of the Flames 82 points, 23 of which were a result of his assists. Parker’s ability to drive to the basket and distribute the ball has been huge for Liberty this season and is a huge reason the Flames get open looks behind the arc. Against South Carolina State, 7 out of the Flames 13 made three-pointers were assisted by Parker.
On the year, Parker is averaging a respectable 8.9 points per game and leads the team in assists with 4.9 a game. The point guard is also efficient when he shoots, as Parker owns a 47.3% shooting percentage from the field. The Plano, Texas native also registered Liberty’s first double-double earlier this season, when he scored 10 points and distributed 10 assists in the Flames win over Mississippi State.
Next up for Parker and the Flames is Alcorn State next Tuesday night in Liberty Arena. The game will tip-off at 1 p.m., no television or streaming will be provided.
