Liberty senior quarterback Chris Ferguson has entered the transfer portal. Ferguson played in 6 games this season for the Flames, making one start against North Alabama. He completed 19 of 37 passes for 197 yards and 4 touchdowns. With the NCAA ruling that fall student-athletes will not have their 2020 season count against their eligibility, Ferguson has one season of eligibility remaining.
Ferguson transferred to Liberty a year ago from Maine. The 6’3″, 235 pound quarterback battled with Malik Willis throughout the summer and the fall for the starting job until Willis was eventually dubbed the starter just prior to the start of the 2020 campaign.
In his lone start this season in Liberty’s 28-7 win over North Alabama, Ferguson completed 12 of 21 passes for 64 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ferguson joins DL Austin Lewis who entered the transfer portal this week as the regular season has come to an end and the Flames are now preparing for a hopeful bowl invitation.
Quarterbacks that remain on Liberty’s roster include Malik Willis, Johnathan Bennett, Will Bowers, and Sean Brown. Nate Hampton is expected to sign with the Flames on Wednesday to open the early signing period.
