Wow, how to put this in words…. Liberty drops a heartbreaker in double overtime to Coastal 55-52. Here’s some quick hit notes:
Offense
- Liberty’s offense put up the points needed to get the win, 45 in regulation and 52 total.
- Josh Woodrum finished with 382 yards passing, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.
- Des Rice had a career high 170 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. He also added 25 yards receiving.
- Both Darrin Peterson and Gabe Henderson had over 100 receiving yards on the evening. Gabe finished with 9 catches for 135 yards and 1 touchdown. Peterson had 9 catches for 111 yards.
- Flames finished with 615 yards of total offense, outgaining the Chanticleers 615-554.
- The offense was not the problem, the Flames marched up and down the field at will all game.
Other
- Completely shocked by the defensive performance in the 2nd half. Coastal scored on every drive in the 2nd half, and outscored the Flames 39-24 in the 2nd period and 2 overtimes.
- Liberty really needed to punch that last drive in the 2nd overtime into the end zone.
- Lunsford is still a raw, young kicker. His last attempt was his first in a clutch situation of his career.
- Not much else to say on this one other than Liberty lost another close game in the 4th quarter/overtime. The Flames can’t seem to get over the hump. Liberty has had leads in the 4th quarter in 3 of their 4 losses this season.
- The rest of the season will play out as one big exhibition for the 2014 season. Coastal is not losing 2 games in the Big South. Not happening.
Seems to me in the 2nd half w/ a lead the coaches coach not to lose & that’s always Wut happens.
