Here are our quick-hit notes from Liberty’s overtime win against Gardner-Webb:
- Liberty has now won 4 games in a row. They are 3-0 in conference play, along side Charleston Southern.
- This was Gardner-Webb’s first overtime game since 2010.
- The Flames struggled offensively in the 1st half. They only managed 35 rushing yards. QB Buckshot Calvert was 7 of 12 for 83 yards and an interception.
- Buckshot moves to 4-0 as a starter. His stat line for the night was 14 of 23 for 182 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. One of those interceptions came at the start of the 2nd half, which was a pick-6. After that, Liberty started focusing heavily on the run game, easing Buckshot back into throwing the ball.
- Liberty had 109 rushing yards on the afternoon. RB Todd Macon accounted for 52 yards and a touchdown while Carrington Mosley led the way with 69 yards.
- Offensively, Liberty had 291 total yards on the day. Far less than the 681 they poured out last week. It wasn’t until the end of the 3rd quarter that the offense starting finding constant success.
- WR Dante’ Shells had 3 receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown. He is now 63 yards away from being the 7th Flame to have over 2,000 receiving yards in his career.
- K Alex Probert was 2/3 in regulation. He had the chance to win the game, but the kick was far-left. His kick in overtime was the difference maker though.
- Though they are ranked 8th in the nation in turnovers, Liberty’s defense did not get a single takeaway.
- Dexter Robbins sealed the win as he blocked Gardner-Webb’s field goal in overtime.
- S Alpha Jalloh and CB Tyrin Holloway now have over 100 career tackles.
- For the first time since 2011, the Flames went undefeated in the month of October.
- Liberty will take on Presbyterian next Saturday in Clinton. Kickoff is slated for 2:00pm.
