On a cloudy fall day, 16,577 Flames fans found their way to Williams Stadium to witness a massacre by Liberty, after the Flames trounced the University of Massachusetts 62-17.
- Liberty Flames open up the game in electric fashion with an interception on the first play of the game. Interception made by cornerback Duron Lowe.
- On the second play of the game, Liberty had the ball at the 26-yard line and handed the ball off to running back T.J. Green for a 26-yard rushing touchdown. Liberty lead 7-0.
- Both of the first two plays took up 14-seconds of game clock and Liberty has taken control.
- Aakil Washington forced a sack-fumble for a loss of 5-yards and Liberty took over on UMass’ 6-yard line.
- On Liberty’s second offensive play and drive, quarterback Malik Willis made a shovel pass to wide receiver Demario Douglas for a 6-yard passing touchdown. Liberty lead 14-0
- As UMass slowly moves down the field, Minutemen quarterback Brady Olson throws several near interceptions.
- UMass was forced to fourth down on Liberty’s 28-yard line and the Minutemen decided to settle for a field goal. Liberty lead 14-3.
- Liberty was slowed on their third offensive drive with a three and out situation. Punter Max Morgan with a 41-yard fair catch for UMass to take over at their own 28-yard line. Liberty got their pay back while forcing a three and out for UMass.
- Willis decided to blow the game open with a 60-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver D.J. Stubbs for his first receiving touchdown of the year. Liberty lead 21-3.
- Liberty’s offense just kept on rolling with a 43-yard pass to wide receiver Kevin Shaa.
- After the electric play by Shaa, Liberty got the job done off a 29-yard rushing touchdown by Green for his second rushing touchdown of the game. Kicker Brayden Beck missed the PAT. Liberty lead 27-3.
- Once Liberty’s defense forced UMass to punt again, Flames’ offense only needed two plays to drive 72-yards down the field. First wide receiver C.J. Daniels snagged a one-yard catch for 23-yards, followed by a 49-yard touchdown catch for wide receiver Noah Frith. Liberty lead 34-3.
- To continue the storyline of this game, after Liberty’s defense forced UMass to punt again, Liberty drove down the field 72-yards to finish it off with a four-yard touchdown pass from Willis to tight end Johnny Huntley. This is Huntley’s first touchdown of the year. Liberty lead 41-3.
- After struggling to pass the ball all game UMass’ Olson threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to secure the first touchdown of the day for the Minutemen. Liberty lead 41-10.
- Liberty took over at their own 25-yard line in the third quarter and drove the ball 75-yards for another Flames’ touchdown. Running back Shedro Louis ran the ball up the middle for a nine-yard rushing touchdown. Liberty lead 48-10.
- Quarterback Nate Hampton replaced Willis for his first-ever appearance in a regular season game for the Flames. In his first drive he had zero pass completions, but ran the ball for 18-yards.
- Following Hampton’s first appearance, he was replaced by quarterback Kaidon Salter for his first ever appearance in a Liberty uniform.
- Salter is showing rare athleticism that has drawn comparison to Willis as a lethal dual-threat quarterback.
- Salter wasted no time in his first drive, after throwing a 39-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brody Brumm. That was Salter’s first career touchdown. Liberty lead 55-10.
- Despite an abysmal first drive, Hampton came into his second drive and finished it with a 63-yard touchdown pass. Liberty lead 62-10.
Liberty will be heading to Oxford, Mississippi to face off against a top-10 opponent in the nation in Ole Miss. Game starts at noon eastern kickoff.
