Liberty loses to Charleston Southern, 74-62, Saturday night. Here’s our rapid reactions from the game:
- The Flames fall to 0-10 in Big South play which ties the worst start in conference play in school history matching the 1998-99 team.
- This was the first game it felt like Liberty had a legitimate chance to win into the 2nd half since the conference opener against Campbell on New Years’ Eve.
- Hat tip to Liberty beat writer Chris Lang for this stat – Liberty has not led a game in the 2nd half sine the previously mentioned Campbell game. That’s 9 straight games without holding a lead in the 2nd half. That’s got to be some kind of record.
- Jordan Dembley got his first career start and played very well. The true freshman point guard from Minnesota finished the game 9 points, 4 assists, and just 3 turnovers in 28 minutes. Pretty solid play at the point guard spot, a place the Flames desperately need production from following Joe Retic’s injury.
- Saah Nimley, the leading scorer in the Big South, finished with just 18 points on 4/14 shooting from the field. He did have 15 points in the 2nd half.
- Drew Smith and David Andoh added 14 and 12 points, respectively for the Flames who shot 49% from the field.
- Next up: a road trip to Winthrop on Thursday as Liberty hopes to avoid falling to 0-11 in Big South play for the first time in school history.
