Liberty knocks off the Panthers, 62-58. Here’s our rapid reactions:
- The Flames move to 4-1 in conference play and remain in a tie for first place. Liberty is now in a 3-way tie for first with Winthrop and UNC Asheville after Longwood and Radford lost on Wednesdasy night. The Flames are now 3-0 on the road in league play.
- Ryan Kemrite, who only played 16 minutes due to foul trouble throughout the game, came up huge in the final minutes of the game. He scored all 10 of his points in the final 3 minutes of action, as he knocked down 2 three pointers and was perfect on his 4 free throws.
- The Flames made all 6 of their free throws in the final 74 seconds of the game. 2 free throws each from Kemrite, Myo Baxter-Bell, and Lovell Cabbil. Liberty made 20 of their 23 free throws on the evening.
- With Kemrite on the bench with foul trouble and John Dawson only attempting one field goal all night, Coach McKay turned to his freshman trio for points. Baxter-Bell, Brock Gardner, and Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz combined for 31 points. The freshmen also grabbed 9 rebounds. Huge performance from these guys in a hostile environment on the road.
- Five different Flames scored between 8 and 11 points. Baxter-Bell and Gardner led the way with 11, while Kemrite chipped in 10. Pacheco-Ortiz finished with 9 and Lovell Cabbil had 9 points.
- Liberty won the game despite being out-rebounded by 15, 37-22. The Panthers had 15 offensive rebounds which they converted into 10 second chance points.
- High Point held the lead for 30 minutes of game action and led by as many as 9. The Flames grabbed the lead on a Kemrite made 3 with 1:55 to play. It was a lead they would not relinquish.
- The Flames return to action on Saturday at Radford who fell to 3-2 in Big South play after losing at Charleston Southern tonight.
