Rapid reactions following Liberty’s loss to North Florida, 77-57, in Cancun:
- Liberty fell behind early, 16-2, and the Ospreys never looked back. UNF led by as many as 18 in the first half before the Flames closed the 1st half on a 10-1 run in the final 3 minutes to cut the lead to 7, 42-35, at halftime. It is the first halftime lead North Florida has had so far this season.
- After winning their first 2 games, the Flames have now dropped 3 straight to move to 2-3 on the year.
- The Flames had 8 turnovers in the first half, and finished the game with 19 turnovers. The Ospreys had just 12.
- Liberty shot 40.8% from the field and was 5/11 from 3, but struggled from the free throw line going just 12/21 (57.1%).
- James Johnson and David Andoh led the team in scoring with 10 points a piece. Johnson also had 4 rebounds and scored 7 of his points in the first half. Andoh added 7 rebounds to lead the team.
- Tomasz Gielo struggled, finishing the game with 5 points on 2/6 shooting from the field. It’s his lowest scoring output since February 15, 2014 against VMI when he scored just 2 points. Gielo has failed to score in double figures in his last 2 games after opening the season with point totals of 14, 23, and 13.
- Joe Retic struggled shooting as well, going 0/5 from the field. He finished with 1 point, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.
- AC Reid knocked down 3 of his 5 3-point attempts to finish with 9 points.
- UNF was 12/31 from 3-point range.
- Liberty concludes their trip to Cancun and the Cancun challenge on Wednesday when they face Morgan State who lost to Elon, 74-73.
