Liberty beats Presbyterian, 65-61. Here’s our rapid reactions:
- It’s the Flames 4th straight win, Liberty’s longest regular season win streak since 2011.
- With the win, Liberty moves to 6-5 in Big South play. It’s the first time LU has been above .500 in conference play since they were 2-1 in 2014. The last time the Flames have been above .500 this late in the season, was in 2011.
- Liberty moves to 8-1 this season when holding opponents to 62 points or fewer.
- John Dawson finished with a career-high 19 points including 3/4 free throws in the final 20 seconds.
- Evan Maxwell posted consecutive double figure games for the first time since December. He finished the game with 10 points after scoring 10 points against Gardner-Webb on Wednesday.
- The Flames led for all except 30 seconds tonight, very similar to the game against the Runnin’ Bulldogs on Wednesday.
- DeSean Murray is clearly one of the best players in the Big South. The Flames, like most Big South teams, had trouble trying to defend him. He finished with 23 points and 7 rebounds.
- Caleb Homesley fouled out, but finished with 15 points on 5/7 field goal shooting.
- Liberty shot 42% from 3 knocking down 11 of 26 attempts. The Flames only made 9 2-point field goals.
- The 6 Big South wins matches the most Liberty has had since 2012. In 2013, the Flames finished with 6 conference wins.
- Liberty is slowly creeping up the league standings, currently tied for 5th place with Radford and Gardner-Webb. Just a reminder, since we haven’t had to worry about conference tournament seeding for a while, the top 5 get a 1st round bye in the Big South tournament.
- Big game Tuesday night as the Flames play host to 1st place Winthrop. The Eagles have won 7 consecutive games.
Tuesday is the first “must see” game for me in Vines since I came to LU in 2012..
