Liberty holds off Radford 71-64 in overtime. Here’s our rapid reactions:
- Liberty used a huge first half to build a 34-12 halftime lead. In the first half the Highlanders shot only 15.4% and were 0-12 from behind the 3 point line. The Flames defense suffocated the Radford offense for the entire first half.
- It was a tale of two halves though. Radford didn’t go away and made a comeback in the second half. An 18-4 run helped the Highlanders get back in the game. They tied the game 59-59 in the last minute and forced overtime.
- The Flames scored all their points in overtime from the charity strike and were 12 0f 14 from the free throw line in OT.
- Offensive rebounds continue to plague Liberty. Radford had 16 offensive rebounds compared to only 2 for the Flames. Radford out rebounded Liberty 45-29 for the game. Rebounding is definitely the achilles heel of this Liberty team.
- The Flames once again used a balance scoring attack with 4 players scoring in double figures.
- It wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win, especially on the road against a very good Radford team.
- Liberty remains tied for first in the Big South at 5-1 and returns to action Thursday against Gardner-Webb in the Vines Center.
