Liberty’s season comes to an end with a loss to UNCA in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament. Here’s our thoughts:
- This one was over as soon as it got started. UNCA jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back. UNCA led by as much as 30 points in the first half and went into the locker room with a 44-16 lead.
- It’s just a bad matchup for the Flames who have lost all 3 games to Asheville this season with none of the matchups being competitive.
- The Flames had 13 turnovers compared to just 1 assist in the first half while shooting 27% from the field.
- Lovell Cabbil was one of the lone bright spots for Liberty early on, as he went on his own personal 8-0 run.
- A.C. Reid picked it up in the 2nd half, as the sophomore wing finished with 13 points.
- Liberty finished the game with 18 turnovers and shot 31% from the field and 20% from 3.
- This is the first loss in the Big South Tournament quarterfinal for Coach McKay. He was 2-0 in his first 2 quarterfinals with Liberty during his first stint.
- UNC-Asheville looks like a team focused and posied to cut down the nets on Sunday. We’ll see how the rest of the weekend plays out.
- Keep your heads up, FlamesNation. One game does not define a season and it doesn’t cancel out what this team accomplished this year. The future is still very bright.
- Stayed tuned over the coming days as we try to put a bow on this season and begin to look ahead to next year and the future under head coach Ritchie McKay.
