Here’s how former Liberty players fared this past week of the NFL season, to conclude the regular season.
QB MALIK WILLIS
Malik continues to serve as the backup for Jordan Love. The Packers lost to the Chicago Bears, 24-22, on Sunday to fall to 11-6 on the season. Willis did come in for Love who exited the game in the first half with an arm injury. The former Liberty quarterback completed 10 of 13 passes for 136 yards while getting sacked 3 times. He also rushed once for three yards.
On the season, Willis has completed 40 of 54 passes (74.1%) for 550 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions, all are career highs. He’s also rushed 20 times for 138 yards (a career-high) and a touchdown.
Love’s status is not completely decided for the playoffs this coming week. It sounds as though he will likely play, but, if he is unable to go, Malik will get the start in the playoffs against the Eagles.
Next game: NFL Playoffs first round @ Philadelphia Eagles, Sunday, Jan. 12, 4:30 p.m., FOX
WR DEMARIO DOUGLAS
Douglas had 3 receptions for 34 yards on 4 targets as the Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills, 23-16. Douglas played in all 17 games for the Pats this season, catching 66 passes on 87 targets for 621 Yates and 3 touchdowns, all career highs. He also had 3 rushed for 16 yards. New England head coach Jerod Meyo was fired at the conclusion of the season. It will be interesting to see how that affects Douglas under a new head coach and likely new offensive system.
Next game: N/A end of regular season.
