Update 9/7 12:35 p.m.: Hugh Freeze informs ASOR he will be travelling to Louisiana to coach the team from a medical chair in the press box. He is scheduled to leave Lynchburg from a Liberty University plane at 3:30 Eastern and should land around 5 p.m. Central for the 7:30 local time kickoff.
Previous: Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze plans to travel to Lafayette, Louisiana Saturday and coach the team from a medical chair in the press box.
“The University has purchased a medical chair that is being delivered to Louisiana and installed in the press box for him to use on game day,” Liberty Athletic Director Ian McCaw said. “As of this morning, he does intend to travel and be at the game to coach from the press box.”
Numerous reports state that the chair Freeze will be coaching in is similar to this one which retails for approximately $5,000.
And here is a picture of the actual chair, currently in the press box in Louisiana:

Freeze is not flying with the team which is scheduled to leave Lynchburg Friday afternoon, but instead he will travel separately. His Liberty coaching debut last weekend garnered national attention as he laid in a hospital bed and called plays from the coaches’ booth at Williams Stadium against Syracuse.
Despite Louisiana coach Billy Napier stating earlier this week that the school will do all they can to help Freeze, a hospital bed would not be plausible as it doesn’t fit in a standard coaches box. Liberty had to put a hole in a wall for it to work at Williams Stadium.
Freeze began experiencing severe back spasms following a team scrimmage on August 10th. He was admitted to Lynchburg General Hospital the following day and underwent surgery for a herniated disc and staph infection August 16 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. After feeling some discomfort return, he had an MRI on Wednesday, August 28th where the results revealed an extreme amount of fluid had gathered in has back.
He has been unable to return the practice field since August 10th, and since being released from the hospital has been staying at the Fairfield Inn adjacent to Liberty’s campus. From his hotel room, Freeze has been able to watch practice live and communicate with staff and players via a walkie-talkie.
Following this weekend’s game in Louisiana, Liberty’s next three games are all in the comforts of Williams Stadium so Freeze will not have to deal with the concerns that come with travelling. Liberty’s next road game is October 5th at New Mexico State.
